How you’ll make your mark through NCS summer

This Easter, our NCS Good Egg competition celebrates the inspiring ways in which young people are getting involved in their communities through NCS.

Joining the NCS North East community, you’re part of the world’s biggest youth movement – in which you’ll discover new things about yourself and gain awesome new skills as you help local causes that you care about.

What’s social action?

Phase 3 of NCS means social action time! Fresh from your two residentials – where you’ll have enjoyed the freedom of living away from home and honing amazing new skills for life – you’ll work with your team to develop a community project on an issue you’re passionate about. > “I’ve really enjoyed helping others out... I want to continue improving the community for everyone.” - Evie, Middlesbrough Last year, North East teenagers collectively spent over 214,000 hours volunteering in their communities. Their social action projects included: * Helping young people improve their mental health * Caring for abandonned animals * Raising awareness of LGBTQ issues * Refurbishing a community centre * Putting on a charity gig

You’re encouraged to log the time you spend on social action with the V•Inspired Awards. This lands you industry-recognised volunteering awards that make CVs and UCAS applications stand out from the pack.

“I am proud and passionate about helping others. I’ve struggled to keep my CV to three pages as it’s so full of things I’ve done with NCS!” - Graham, 18, Gateshead

Our grads feel more able to have an impact on the world around them. Two-thirds of young people say they’re more likely to help out in their local area as a result of NCS – and many choose to continue their volunteering journey after graduation.

What happens after NCS? alt

As a graduate, you’ll get access to the NCS Opportunity Hub as well as the chance to take part in local, regional and even national youth boards that shape NCS and deliver their own social action projects – check out some examples from NCS Action Day 2017 here!

"I will never look back from my NCS experience... Since taking part I've done more in the past year than in my whole life!" Joe, 18, North Tyneside

You may also choose to become an ambassador for NCS North East, helping spread the word so that even more young people get the chance to take part in the life-changing programme.

You can see a selection of inspiring stories from other young people on the NCS North East grad blog.
